The primary goal of our Association is to help conserve Kenya’s wildlife. At the same time, we also consider the education of Kenyan children important. We urge the support of children from whom the rangers and park wardens of the future can come. In this way, we help protect wildlife and educate children at the same time.
I WILL BECOME A RANGER PROGRAM
The Lorubae Primary School in Samburu is in the middle of nowhere in Kenya. Literally in the middle of nowhere. It was built next to a traditional Samburu village whose inhabitants live of tourists and tourism. Their children also go to this school. Fortunately, the school has access to drinking water, so they have a sufficient amount for cooking, drinking and personal hygiene.
Here you can see three outstanding students from this primary school who need support. Selected from among the girl students of the school by Deputy Headteacher Mr. Isigi, they are determined to be rangers in the future.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO SUPPORT GIRLS?
Since the main goal of our Association is to protect the wildlife of East Africa, we believe the best solution is to help the wildlife by supporting the education of talented, hard-working girls. In Kenya, as in Africa, it is crucial for a better and more orderly future that as many girls as possible have the opportunity to learn so that they can avoid becoming pregnant at the age of 13 or 14, and do not drop out of the education system.
There is a constant need for new rangers and park wardens (park rangers) in Kenya’s national parks to watch for, and take action against, poachers. We hope that with our “I Will Become a Ranger” program our Association can contribute to the protection of Kenya’s wildlife in the near future with three fantastic and determined ranger girls.
The three girls selected – Kaltuma (13), Jilena (14) and Chauline (14) – come from families that can be considered disadvantaged even at an African level. All three know what deprivation means, and how lucky they are that they could still learn – would one day their family decide that they can no longer deprive them at home and they have to start working, their efforts and studies so far would be in vain and they would have no chance left to achieve their dream of being rangers.
CHILDREN ELIGIBLE FOR SUPPORT – THE RANGERS OF THE FUTURE
Jilena (14). There are a lot of children in Jilena’s family and unfortunately they are raised by their mother alone. Jilena is a very hard-working student who prefers to increase her knowledge acquired in the wildlife observation special classes in her free time at school.
Chauline (14). She is a daughter of a very poor family. Her parents are illiterate. The fact that she and some of her brothers can write and read is already a big thing in her family. Chauline has known for years that she wants to be a ranger, thanks to Mr. Isigi’s tirelessly conducted wildlife observation special classes.
Kaltuma (13) comes from a very poor family. Unskilled, her parents are unable to get a long-term job and can only work in temporal ones. Kaltuma is a very hard working, good student. She is very interested in wildlife and its protection.
